What is a Goldendoodle?
A Goldendoodle is a hybrid breed of dog which is a cross between a Poodle and a Golden Retriever. They are consider a “designer breed” and a “cross-breed”. When looking for a Goldendoodle its “purity” is described by several terms.
F1 or First Generation:
This is when you breed a Golden Retriever to a Standard Poodle.
F1b or backcross:
This is when you breed an F1 Goldendoodle back to a poodle. F1b’s are typically more poodle than they are Golden Retriever. They also don’t shed the way first generation Goldendoodles do. It also makes them less likely to trigger an allergic reaction with those who are usually allergic to dogs.
(Don’t be fooled by amateur and scam breeder who may try to breed a goldendoodle with a golden retriever and claim it is an F1b. You’ll have a shedding nightmare on your hands and a dog that’s 3/4 golden retriever.)
F2 or Second Generation:
This is a Goldendoodle bred to another Goldendoodle.
